How To Tag Facebook Fan Pages In Your Posts – Updated

Facebook is constantly changing their rules about how to do things. Up until the end of May, you could tag a fan page both in your personal profile and from your fan page by using the @ symbol and then typing out the page name. But beginning the end of May, this no longer works.

To clarify, you can still “tag” the page, meaning, a link to their page will appear in your post. However, your post will no longer show on the other person’s fan page wall as a post. It will instead show up in the “Recent Posts by Others” box on the right side of the page, IF the page has this functionality enabled. If they don’t, your post won’t show up anywhere on the page.

The other bad news? The fan page owner will no longer be notified that you have tagged them in your post. Major bummer, for both sides.

So the only way for your message to appear as a post on the wall of another page is to select “Use Facebook As ______ page”, which can be found at the top of the page under the FB logo. Make sure that you’re not spamming the page with a promotion and instead you’re posting information that is helpful or you’re leaving a compliment about their product or service.

Is this permanent? It’s been over 2 weeks and the social media community has been talking about it for a while, so it doesn’t seem to be a temporary glitch and it seems to be the same with all accounts. However, if you notice something different, please let us know so we can update this info!

If you’re not familiar with how tagging a fan page from your fan page works, here’s a quick rundown.

How to Tag Other Pages

1) Like the page from your personal profile. *Note: You must like the page from your personal profile or the post won’t show on the page you’re tagging.

2) At the top of the page, on the left side just below the FB logo you’ll see a light blue bar with text that says “You are posting, commenting, and liking as ________ — Change to ____________” You’ll want to change this to your page. (See photo below)

3) Like the page from your fan page.

4) Go back to your fan page.

5) Write the post and tag the page(s). To tag a page, use the @ symbol and then type out the page name and it should automatically appear in a drop down menu. Choose the name from this menu and the page will show up as a clickable link.

6) Click on the link in your post to go to the page you have tagged and to confirm you’ve properly tagged the page

7) Confirm the post is showing in the “Recent Posts by Others” section. *Note: If the page doesn’t have this section, unfortunately your posting won’t show on the page
