How To Tag Facebook Fan Pages In Your Posts

[See Updated Post Above For New Changes]

Facebook is constantly changing their rules about how to do things. Up until the end of May, you could tag a fan page both in your personal profile and from your fan page by using the @ symbol and then typing out the page name. But beginning the end of May, this no longer works. Well, you can still “tag” the page, meaning, a link to their page will appear in your post. However, your post will no longer show on the other person’s fan page wall as a post, it will instead show up in the “Recent Posts by Others” box on the right side of the page, IF the page has this functionality enabled. If they don’t, your post won’t show up anywhere on the page.

The other bad news? The fan page owner will no longer be notified that you have tagged them in your post. Major bummer, for both sides. So the only way for your message to appear as a post on the wall of another page is to select “Use Facebook As ______ page” in the upper right corner and then post to their page as your own page. Make sure that you’re not spamming the page with a promotion and instead you’re posting information that is helpful or you’re leaving a compliment about their product or service.

Is this permanent? It’s been over 2 weeks and the social media community has been talking about it for a while, so it doesn’t seem to be a temporary glitch and it seems to be the same with all accounts. However, if you notice something different, please let us know so we can update this info!

If you’re not familiar with how tagging a fan page from your fan page works, here’s a quick rundown.

How to Tag Other Pages

1)      Like the page from your personal profile. *Note: You must like the page from your personal profile or the post won’t show on the page you’re tagging.

2)      In the upper right corner of FB go to “Use FB as ______ page” and switch over to your fan page (See Image Below)

3)      Like the page from your fan page

4)      In the upper right corner of FB go go to “Use FB as Your Personal Profile” *Note: If you’re not logged into your page as your personal profile and you tag a page, it won’t show up on their page.

5)      Go to your fan page

6)      Click on the “Edit Page” at the top of your page

7)      Then select “Manage Permissions”

8)      Make sure that “Always comment and post on your page as _______” is selected

9)      Click “Save Changes” if you had to check the box

10)    Click “View Page” in the upper right corner

11)    Write the post and tag the page(s). To tag a page, use the @ symbol and then type out the page name

12)    Click on the link in your post to go to the page you have tagged

13)   Confirm the post is showing in the “Recent Posts by Others” section. *Note: If the page doesn’t have this section, your posting won’t show on the page

14)    If the post is showing on your page, and the tag is showing on your page, but it’s not showing in the “Recent Posts by Others” section, you’ll need to delete the post, and go back and do step #4 to ensure that you are using Facebook as your personal profile. Then re-post the information.
